John Freimarck Calligraphy Inspired Bowl Organic Art Pottery 1970s

About the Item

Calligraphy inspired art pottery bowl was made by John Freimarck of Freimarck Pottery as a part of a series created in late 1970s. The hand thrown bowl has a complex shape; the circular outer rim is gently stretched in four directions, creating a square inscribed inside a circle. The bowl is decorated with abstract branch and leaves design on rust and olive background. High gloss, lustrous glaze finish enlivens and adds complexity to a minimal, organic, earthy palette. John Freimarck (b. 1942) is known for high fired functional stoneware pottery, including lidded boxes, squared and round plates, dinner ware, and platters. He founded Freimarck Pottery in Manquin, Virginia, in 1973. The American Museum of Ceramic Art in California has his work in its collection; he is represented by several regional galleries. The bowl is signed with impressed artist's stamp on the bottom rim and with signature on the bottom.
